UK Games Expo 2018...
This is the sixth time I've been to the UK games expo. It really is one of the highlights of my year. The first time I went by myself. This time I went with a large group of Sheffield boardgamers. A group of us stayed together in a large house 10 minutes drive away from the NEC. Visiting the games show during the day times, and returning to the house to play games in the evenings.
Every year the Expo has expanded, last year it seemed a bit crazy, but this year they opened up a lot more space, and it felt just right. They took up 2 large halls in the NEC plus they had more space in two of the hotels near by.
Here are just a few photos of some of this years best bits for me...

Gaslands - with explosion markers!
I made some explosion markers out of flickering battery operated tealights and teddybear stuffing.... they looked great on the table in our latest game of GASLANDS... I had a prison team this time, Kes tried out his new bus, and Lizzy won again....
Hammerhead 2018...
This is the second time I've attended the HAMMERHEAD wargames show at Newark Showground. It is a fun day out, there is loads to see and do, and every game there is a participation game, so you can have a go at all kinds of interesting games, from small skirmishes to giant sea battles! I didn't take many photos whilst I was there, but there is an excellent video that the guys from Wargames Illustrated did to give you an idea of what was going on - check it out on their facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/WargamesIllustrated/videos/1729592130468842/
(you can see me playing Frostgrave with a nice chap from the Chesterfield Open Gaming Society at around 5mins40secs if you don't blink!)
I had a great game of Frostgrave on a fantastic dungeon table made from "Hirst Arts" molds... absolutely excellent. The Chesterfield guys play Frostgrave regularly on Mondays... not a good day for me unfortunately or I'd be over there all the time....

Frostgrave - Ulterior Motives
The Ulterior Motives expansion for Frostgrave introduces some new fun ideas to the game, both players draw a card from a deck of secret objectives at the start of the game, it gives a bit of extra narrative, and gives each player an additional way of gaining experience points. In order to use this expansion you need a few extra bits of scenery. Each card names 3 things to placed somewhere on the table for each player. One will be significant for the secret objective, and the other two will be red herrings. The things needed are: Arcane Disc, Gateway, Pit, Runic stone, Sarcophagus, Statue, Trapdoor and Zombie.... so I made sure I had two of each!
