Frostgrave..."Null Men"

The next scenario we will be playing in Frostgrave requires a bunch of "Nullmen".. No-one makes specific miniatures for these guys, and I've still got a handful of these old plastic Warhammer skeleton sprues knocking around... so I chopped the weapons out of their hands and painted ten of them a mysterious blue/green...

Rangers of ShadowDeep - "The Bridge Guards"

We had our third adventure in our Rangers of ShadowDeep campaign this afternoon. "The Bridge Guards" is the first part of the second mission from the main Rulebook. There are some very interesting mechanics going on in this one, and it was a pretty tough scenario.

I designed a paper mat specifically for this scenario using some free assets from the 2 Minute Tabletop website... I created a PDF on photoshop, and then just printed it out on paper and stuck it to the table. Then we filled it with trees and ruins etc and a bridge from the old Warhammer Townscape papercraft set.

There was a formidable gang of Gnolls guarding the bridge... we had a surprise advantage, but that only lasted whilst the Gnolls didn't spot us and raise the alarm... We managed to quietly pick off a few of the Gnolls before we were spotted and made a rush for the ford at the far edge of the board. Meanwhile a giant Vulture appeared and was trying to fly across the board, but luckily one of our rangers managed to shoot it out of the sky using her "Steady Aim" special ability...
A big fight kicked off at the ford, it started to rain heavily  making shooting harder, a couple of our guys managed to break free of the fight whilst everyone else was embroiled in it, and make it to the Gnolls camp to pick up the treasure and find a vital clue just in the nick of time. We took out most of the Gnolls, but 3 of our crew were knocked out. Luckily they all recovered to return in the next part of the mission.
This scenario felt a lot harder than the first two we did, and it was a lot more fun for it! Great stuff.

Frostgrave - "With Magnetic Force"

This was a fun scenario - another one from the "Frostgrave Folio" book... in the rules for "With Magnetic Force" every time a 19 or 20 is rolled, a giant magnet is switched on or off,  making all shooting  and spell casting a lot harder, and moving all treasures in a random direction... before the game we decided that we would change this to all rolls of 16+ for more chance of crazy magnetic chaos!!

We used Ulterior Motive cards again, coincidentally this time we both had secret objectives that involved runic stones...

The game lasted around 5 - 6 turns... we managed to get 3 treasure tokens each. A group of zombies turned up and kept Lizzy's team busy trying to shoot at them whilst being hindered by the magnetic force, meanwhile my apprentice made it to my runic stone to copy down a magic spell of Demon Summoning onto a scroll...
Lizzy's apprentice and a small group of bodyguards looked like they were heading towards the other runic stone - so my bear and some of my guys ran over to intercept them. The bear got there first, and was rudely killed by Lizzy's barbarian.... a scuffle then ensued, leaving my apprentice with 1 health point, but Lizzy's apprentice managed to get to her stone of Power, and managed to cast a spell,  fulfilling her objective just before the final treasure token was scurried off the table by a treasure hunter ending the game.

The only casualty this time was my bear (again!). My apprentice survived by the skin of his teeth, this means he got to keep the scroll of demon summoning to use in a future game... We both got some nice treasures... and both our wizards are now around level 30...

It's "The Pits of Null" next.... and then we're thinking of starting the "Thaw of the Lich Lord" campaign with brand new wizards!

The set up...

Here come the zombies...

Gnolls!

These are Gnolls from North Star miniatures... Mostly plastic, but a couple of metal ones too (shaman and crossbow dude)... Really nice models with loads of detail. I've had them for a while, but needed to get them painted up for our next Rangers of ShadowDeep  scenario...

Tried out the camera on my new phone for these... not sure I like it as much as the one on my old phone...

Rangers of ShadowDeep - The Infected Trees...

Rangers of Shadowdeep - Mission 1, Scenario 2 - "The Infected Trees".... Our Rangers and trusty teams took their second foray into the wilderness to track down some Giant spiders, burn out their nests and hopefully rescue some villagers before they could be turned into zombies...

The set up.. 4 nest trees... 5 web cocoons... and 5 giant spiders...

Giant spider (model from Shadows of Brimstone) and web cocoon (air drying clay wrapped in fake halloween spiderweb decoration)

Alfie's Conjuror spent most of the game tangled up in a web!

In the last round we just managed to get a treasure and kill the last spider!

The scenario wasn't too hard - we killed all the spiders and burnt down their nests, but unfortunately we only managed to rescue one villager... we found two, but one was killed by a Spider straight away... we found two dead bodies that couldn't be saved, and the last one had already turned into a Zombie... My Warhound was knocked out early on in the game, but he survived to return next time.... We got about 80xp in the end... not quite enough to go up a level.
