Scenery for DBA 3.0

DBA is played on 24" x 24" battlefield... and various bits of scenery are needed... I've been making various bits over the last few months. I've made two MDF boards - one for Desert, and one for all other battles.

24 x 24 MDF Board... covered with PVA glue and sand... and dry brushed with cheap tester pots of house paint...

PLOUGHED FIELDS... house filler on MDF boards covered in PVA and sand, then painted...

MARSH... polystyrene pizza base, PVA and sand... plus some resin water effect and a few basing tufts...

ROAD.... 3 x 8" straight pieces of thin MDF, PVA and sand... and painted to look like roads..

RIVER... 3 x 8" pieces of thin MDF... sand and PVA just along the edges and painted to look like a river...

A RIVER / ROAD crossing place - I made one of these 8" x 8" sections with a bridge from Leven miniatures...

WATERWAY - 2 x 12" pieces of thin MDF, with PVA and sand beach/edge...

A selection of HILLS - Pizza bases with PVA and Sand...

I made a few plain one level bases like the hills -
to put different removable items on to represent different things -
here we have a stone circle EDIFACE for the Ancient British.

WOODS with removable trees..

SCRUB - small pieces of green scouring pads chopped up and covered in PVA before painting...

A FORT for the Ancient British. Huts from Leven Miniatures... fencing from coffee stirrers.

A CITY for the Romans. Buildings from Leven Miniatures... wall and gatehouse made from thick cardboard.

A FORT for the Romans. Tents from Leven Miniatures. Coffee stirrer fences...

The Roman CAMP.

The Ancient British CAMP.

An example of the board set up and ready to play..

24" x 24" MDF Desert board

Desert CITY - a couple of bits from Leven Miniatures - the rest made from cardboard...

OASIS with removable trees...

ROCKY ground...

DUNES / DIFFICULT HILLS made from polystyrene pizza bases...covered in sand and PVA...

Derbyshire... morning walk above Edale...

Yesterday morning I had the day off work. I always try and get a few days to myself around my Birthday. I dropped the family off at school and work, and I was off to Derbyshire. I got out to Edale carpark for 8.45am... it was a very nice 7 mile walk up and around the hills, I only met a couple of people up there, there was some light snow on the ground and it was a bit slippery in places, but at around 4 centigrade - not too cold. Visibility got better as I got up out of the valley, but unfortunately the views were a bit limited... I was back down in Edale again a couple of hours later, and back home for lunch. A really nice morning out.

6mm Ancient British for DBA 3.0

Here is my Ancient British Army for DBA 3.0... with all the various options...

II/53 Ancient British 55BC - 75AD

1 x General in Chariot (LCh)
1 x General on foot (3Wb)
2 x Light Horse (LH)
3 x chariots (LCh)
4 x slingers (Ps)
9 x Warband (3Wb)
1 x Sacrificing Druids (7Hd)

They are all Rapier miniatures apart from 2 of the chariots which are from Baccus 6mm... as I'm typing this I've just realised I need to base up 2 more units of slingers.... (they're already painted anyway!)

So now I've got 2 full armies for DBA... Romans vs Ancient British... I want to do some armies with camels and elephants next....

Warhammer Underworlds Orks...

This is my Ork team for the Warhammer Underworlds miniatures game.... In all the new Warhammer Ork imagery - Orks seem to be wearing bright yellow armour. This seems wrong to my 1980's Warhammer brain. Orks should wear red!!

Frostgrave - Well of Dreams and Sorrows

In last night's Frostgrave game... my Orc witch and his swarthy crew entered the frozen city and went up against Lizzy's wizard and her bunch of dwarven reprobates in a skirmish over a magical fountain in "The Well of Dreams and Sorrows" scenario from the main rulebook.. We were using the Ulterior motives cards: Lizzy had "Last Meal" in which she was trying to hunt down a zombie who had eaten a magic ring... and I had "Once Bitten" -  one of my thugs had been bitten by a werewolf, and if it wasn't killed by the end of round 4, he would also become one...

There was an initial telekinesis battle over the central treasure marker which Lizzy's apprentice won.

Then my captain, barbarian and bear companion got in position to lure over the werewolf, whilst my witch made a dash for the well, and my treasure hunters tried to secure the nearest treasures... meanwhile Lizzys' wizard and two infantry men made for a high vantage point to try and rain down arrows and spells on all and sundry...

My heavy mob managed to take down the werewolf, saving my thug from a hairy fate... my witch made it to the well and managed to drink from it without getting pushed in. Lizzy's dwarfs finished off the zombie and retrieved the ring from his rotten inards... meanwhile as the treasures were being picked up some wandering monsters appeared... Two snakemen entered the board behind Lizzy's wizard, and two Ice spiders behind my apprentice...

My bear raced to intercept some of Lizzy's team whilst my apprentice and two archers took on the Ice spiders, it was a struggle, but they managed to kill them... Lizzy's bowmen took down one Snakeman whilst the other tried to rush up the stairs at them... but they took that one out in the next turn...

My bear was badly wounded taking on 3 of Lizzy's guys at once, but he managed to weaken one before my captain arrived as backup and used his one off frenzied attack skill to finish him off.... My witch and barbarian ran over to join the fight... so Lizzy's wizard took a gamble and blasted everyone in the melee with an elemental ball! Unfortunately this only succeded in killing one of her own guys who was already near death from the previous fighting..

In the end Lizzy had two casualties, we both completed our Ulterior Motives, we fought off all the wandering monsters, Lizzy got three treasures, I got two, and I managed to drink from the well... so we both ended up with about 300 xp each. I really enjoyed this one - very fighty, and I'm glad more monsters turned up to spice things up a bit!
